Tract books of land sold within Kaskaskia District, 1827-1873.

Land sales were entered in the tract books by legal description, presumably to ensure that a tract was not sold more than once. Entries for each tract sold include tract legal description; purchaser name and residence; sale date; and number of acres. Receiver's receipt number; patent issuance and/or cancelation date are included occasionally. After February 25, 1856 tracts within the Kaskaskia district were sold at the Springfield Land District Office.

The Kaskaskia Land District Office was created by an act of Congress on March 26, 1804.
